Memorial to slaves in Zanzibar. The memorial in Stone Town is a place of visitation for South Africans who wish to trace the steps of their ancestors. Many South African tourists visit Zanzibar without knowing this element of history that connects us. Cape Town is presently constructing a similar place of memorial to our slave forbears, on the corner of Buitengraght Street, bordered by Somerset Road and Waterkant Street (next to St Andrews Church).
